Japanese resources

Japanese at Animelyrics

A general Japanese language board with a slight focus on the language of anime and manga.

JWPce

The Japanese text editor. The built-in kanji lookup and dictionary make this an invaluable tool for any translator with a shaky hold on that nasty Japanese writing.

Space Alc

Home of 英辞郎 on the Web, a Japanese/English dictionary. Aimed at Japanese users, and has some bizarre definitions, but quite useful for looking up phrases in context.

goo 辞書

Another online dictionary; this one provides access to the EXCEED E-J and J-E dictionaries, plus an online edition of the 大辞林 国語辞典.

Kenkyusha Online Dictionary

Easily the best online Japanese-English dictionary, this provides a single search interface to a dozen Kenkyusha dictionaries, including the famous "Green Goddess" (新和英大辞典), as well as new entries not yet in print.

Unfortunately this one isn't free, although the subscription charge is quite reasonable (working out at about $5/mo).

zalas' Japanese resources wiki

The part of zalas' AIR wiki that's devoted to Japanese. Links to a lot of specialist dictionaries and glossaries that can be invaluable for translators. Add your favourites today!

Miscellaneous

JAGARL home

Jagarl is the author of xkanon and xclannad; his site is naturally very useful for bishoujo games on Linux, and his blog is a good resource for mini-reviews. Japanese only, of course.

Quarter Iceshop

A famous dojin webcomic circle, notorious for their series "Minashoku" based loosely on Kanon. Their Toho stuff is also well worth a look if you're a fan of that series.

The Caml language

My programming language of choice. Fast, powerful, portable, multi-paradigm goodness. Makes C++ and Java look like the primitive kludges they are, and Python and Ruby look like the unsafe slugs they are. :P

OCaml tutorial

If you want to get away from whatever antediluvian and/or unsafe language you're stuck with now and try something that's both modern and fast, this is a rather good tutorial for those who already have programming experience.
